Why Is Everyone Organizing Their Stuff? Mental Health Experts and Pro Organizers Tell Why

With the current pandemic stranding everyone in their houses, they’re inevitably exposed to sedentary stress. So, most of them want to do something and arrange their cabinets, storage compartments, and other house spaces.

But why is that happening? Is there a deep connection between organizing stuff to maintaining a healthy mind?

Clinical psychologist and founder of Social Growth Center, Lucy Vo, explains why this is happening in most homes during the pandemic. She said that it’s about trying to cope with the pandemic’s stress and its effects on society.

Many started cleaning their homes to clear their minds to not fall to paranoia on the current situation. Vo added that this action is an innate desire to remove and control everything one can get his or her hands into.

The author of What Now? Mindfulness for Your Twenties and Beyond, Yael Shy, also explained that decluttering aids in coping during uncertain periods. While there are external factors to it, Shy said that it’s about removing anything that can cause grief or stress.

Both agreed that organizing and arranging stuff at home helps everyone get away with the pandemic’s stress and enjoy the isolation without getting frantic about it.

What Should I Clean First? Three Things You Can Start Cleaning to Bring Bigger Impacts

The secret to cleaning without the frizz of doing it is knowing where to start. If you’re in a cycle of regularly cleaning the house and getting stressed with it, here are some tips you can follow for a smooth and stress-free house cleaning:

Pick Up Clutter and Put Them in Boxes or Baskets

We all have the habit of simply putting clutters aside when cleaning spaces. However, that’s not so efficient and timesaving. The best way to clean rooms is to pick up the clutters first and organize them. If you’re still cleaning storage areas or shelves, put them in boxes or baskets. Try to have a system in organizing clutter for more streamlined arranging after cleaning.

Have a Vacuum Cleaner

It’s something you’ll truly need. Vacuum cleaners do the job way better than using brooms to sweep floors. There are vacuum cleaners in the market that are flexible enough to reach even the narrowest house corners. Invest in one, and you’ll never worry much about cleaning again.

Maintain a Clean Kitchen

Another thing that stresses any homeowner is a dirty kitchen. Unpiled plates on the sink and grimy countertops can add to the stress. Clean them by arranging kitchen clutters and organizing them. They function better when you arrange them properly.

This Astonishingly Beautiful Kitchen Designed by Two Designers and a Builder

In Nashville, a home kitchen has become an exemplary design concept brought to life by a couple who’s a designer and a builder. Sarah and Austin Rogers gave this drab nook a modern vibe of wood and white combinations with a little help from Sarah’s design director April Tomlin.

The kitchen features wooden walls and white tones on ceilings, cabinets, and countertops. Black swivel barstools add class to the furnishing, and a framed TV makes it look like a picture frame and a functional appliance. Sarah wants to set the kitchen vibe with California style but with modern warmth. She also aimed to provide tons of functions on the setup with more seating as possible.

With a builder for a husband, everything she conceptualized in the kitchen came to life. Two kitchen islands and a peninsula made it even more enticing a kitchen gallery than a food space. Caesarstone counters, modern faucet and sink from Waterworks, Watermarks Designs, and Rocky Mountain Hardware hardware made all their designs possible.

April Tomlin added that the kitchen is like their usual project concepts. It’s like this coming together of sensibility from Sarah. It’s also a big idea from her that works entirely for the kitchen.

Make Your Own Halloween Skeleton Topiary

Are you preparing for the Halloween celebration sans the pandemic? You can start decorating your front lawn with skeleton topiaries. Here’s how you do it.

What you need:

  • Potted plant
  • Plastic skeleton (you can buy this online)
  • Faux Vines

Instructions:

  1. Disassemble the plastic skeleton. Take everything out until you only have the shoulder scapula, spine, and ribcage. If it’s not detachable, you may need to saw these apart.
  2. Make a small hole in your potted plant. You can use gardening tools or do it with your bare hands. Do it in a spot close to the pot’s edge to avoid hitting the plant’s roots.
  3. Insert the skeleton spine in the hole. Secure the base with some soil and pat it to make the attachment more compact. Ensure that it’s standing upright and not leaning forward or backward.
  4. Decorate the skeleton with faux vines or greenery. You can get some at home depots or thrift stores. You can opt to have flowers as well. Attach the end of the vine to the base and wind them upwards. Make them look like they’re sprouting out from the skeleton.
