Creativity easily finds its way into home design, when brought together with innovative technology and a playful mind. And when both of them collaborate, the result is an exclusive design collaboration between Caesarstone with London design Raw Edges Studio to produce Islands.
Islands is an interactive installation focusing on food and dining within the domestic environment. Islands exhibits the design, beauty, quality and functionality of Caesarstone surfaces and reflects the signature creativity and playfulness of Raw Edges’ work.
Islands seeks to reshape the typical interior arrangement by positioning the surface as the binding element of its design. Cabinetry and appliances are slotted into purpose-built voids within the Caesarstone surface itself instead of being placed atop or around it, thus highlighting the monolith’s value and functionality within the interior environment. Offering a new take on a variety of domestic spaces, Islands focuses primarily on the kitchen concept and the significance of the preparation and enjoyment of food.
Inspiration is drawn from Caesarstone’s Classico collection and in particular from its 2014 Supernatural designs, whose countertops star as the focal point of Islands. The surfaces’ strength, durability, textures and natural looking designs complement the different materials from which the separate units are made, such as reclaimed wood, terracotta, glass and other materials found in a domestic environment. The design celebrates the daily function, origin and importance of the units which are commonly hidden away behind a unified façade.
Yael Mer and Shay Alkalay, the faces behind Raw Edges design studio, is the designers who have created “Islands” for Caesarstone. The installation is displyed at IDS (Interior Design Show) Toronto and to be presented in 2014 Milan Design Week at Palazzo Clerici, in the heart of Milan’s Brera District.
